History

This Decoration was first instituted as the “Civic Decoration (1940-1944)” on July 21, 1944, but it was later named the “Civic Decoration (1940-1945).” It was awarded to civilians and military non-combatants in recognition of devotion and service to Belgium during the Second World War. It was originally awarded with a “1940-1944” clasp, but a new “1940-1945” clasp was created on August 1, 1945. No Decorations were awarded after October 15, 1953.

See also the Civic Decoration for the award established in 1867, and presently awarded for civil service and the Civic Decoration (1914-1918) for the award that recognises service in the First World War.
