History

The Commemorative Medal for Foreign Theatres of Operation was awarded to Belgian citizens and foreigners in recognition of service with Belgian units in foreign operations. Although it is not mentioned anywhere in the official texts, this medal was only awarded for foreign United Nations missions, namely the Korean War. It was also awarded posthumously.

Ribbon clasps were issued to identify the operations in which the recipient had participated. These include:
- "COREE-KOREA"
- "IMJIN"
- "HAKTANG-NI"
- "CHAKTOL"
In addition, a red enamelled cross clasp was awarded for each wound incurred in combat, and a lion clasp was awarded for individual citations.
