History

The Commemorative Medal for the Congo was awarded to Agents of the Association of Congo or the Independent State of Congo in recognition of meritorious service and devotion to duty between 1879 and October 18, 1908. It was also awarded to recognize missionaries, tradesmen, and colonizers who contributed to the introduction of Central Africa in the international community. It was not awarded after December 31, 1930.

The reverse inscription translates to “Labour and Progress.”
