History

The Medal for Agricultural and Artisanal Merit was established by Royal Decree on August 8, 1958. It was awarded to farmers or artisans from the Belgian Congo or Ruanda-Urundi in recognition of distinguished achievements or long service in their field.

The ribbon was purple for an artisanal award and green for an agricultural award.

The reverse inscription appears in French and Dutch and translates to “Agricultural and Artisanal Merit.”
