History

This Order was conferred in recognition of exceptional contributions to the independence and integrity of the Republic of Croatia, to cultural and humanitarian work, and towards the advancement of relations between the Republic of Croatia and religious groups.

It is awarded to Croatian and foreign highly ranked state and religious officials.

This Order is named after Demetrius Zvonimir, who was the king of Croatia during the 11th century. His reign was a peaceful one and he was a loyal vassal to the Pope.
