History

Established by King Christian X, this medal was instituted to be awarded in recognition of all individuals who served as defenders of Denmark on April 9, 1940. The medal was going to be awarded when the Germans left, but circumstances changed, since it took the Germans five years to leave, therefore, the Bronze Medal was never conferred upon any individual.
