Established by King Frederick IX, this medal was awarded to recognize any member, typically civilian employees, who have rendered 25 years of continuous good service to the Ministry of Defense and other corresponding institutions.

Individuals who have rendered 40 years of service may receive a gold oak leaf clasp on the medal's ribbon.

This medal has the exact same obverse and reverse as the Air Force Long Service Medal.
