Established by King Christian X, this medal was awarded to recognize military personnel, including the army, and navy, members of the Royal Life Guards, and police who assisted in the transportation of King Frederik VIII's coffin and stood guard at the funeral.

There was one woman who was included as a recipient of this award.

The reverse of this medal is engraved with the date of the King's birth and death.
