History

Established by Queen Margrethe II, this medal was awarded to recognize civil and military Armed Forces personnel who have died or have become physically injured by accidents, attacks, war or terrorist attacks while in combat, as well as, nationals and foreigners who have rendered services that have benefited the Danish Defence Force and have been wounded whilst doing so.

The reverse inscription of the medal includes the year that the recipient is being recognized for.

In 2010, this medal was discontinued and replaced by two other medals, Medal for the Fallen and Medal for those Wounded in Service.
