Established by King Frederick IX, this medal is awarded to recognize legal personnel, policemen, policewomen, and administrative personnel who have rendered 25 years of continuous good service after the age 21.

From May 16, 1973, this medal can also be conferred upon foreigners who have rendered exceptional service to the police.
