History

Established by the Danish Red Cross, this medal was conferred upon individuals who rendered extraordinary and meritorious service to Danish Red Cross activities, usually for prolonged periods of time.

Both men and women were eligible to receive this award.

When awarded to Danish citizens the ribbon associated with this medal is red with white edges, and when awarded to foreigners, the ribbon associated with this medal is red with a white stripe in the middle.

This medal was no longer conferred after March 13, 1963, and was replaced by the Danish Red Cross Decoration of Merit.
