History

The gilt-edged white enamel cross gammée with eyelet and loop for ribbon suspension.

On the observe are the gilt arms of Karelia imposed centrally. The reverse is plain gilt. The lateral arms inscribed "KARLJALAN RISTI" and the upper and lower arms dated "1941" and "1944" respectively.

The Finnish name of the cross is "Karjalan risti".

The Cross was awarded to both men and women who served for a minimum of one month in Karelia with the General Staff of the Aunus Front or in any capacity during the Winter War or Continuation War on the Karelian Isthmus or in a General Staff capacity and were ineligible for any other commemorative cross.
