History

The Medal of Deportation and Internment for Acts of Resistance was awarded to those who were taken out of France and interned in a prison or concentration camp, and those who were imprisoned in Bas-Rhin, Haut-Rhin or Moselle during World War II. The Medal was extended to deportees and internees of the First World War on January 6, 1955. Recipients of the Medal had to possess a Deported Resister or Interned Resister Card.

There were a total of 74864 cards distributed. Medals were not awarded after January 1, 1967.

The ribbon for the Medal for Deported Resisters had blue and white vertical stripes. It was worn with a “1914-1918” clasp made of nickel silver and a “DÉPORTÉ” clasp made of nickel silver gilt. The ribbon for the Medal for Interned Resisters had blue and white diagonal stripes. It was worn with a “1914-1918” clasp made of nickel silver and an “INTERNÉ” clasp made of nickel silver gilt.

The reverse inscription translates to "French Republic, Medal of the Deportation and Internment for Acts of Resistance."

There is at least one version of the Medal which varies in composition and there may be others which vary in size.
