The Medal for the East was created on June 15, 1926. It was awarded to troops in the Allied Army of the Orient, under the command of General Louis Franchet d’Esperey. These troops led a victorious campaign in Bulgaria, retook Serbia and Romania, and invaded Austria in the fall of 1918, all of which contributed to the signing of three armistices near the end of the First World War.
The obverse inscription translates to “French Republic,” and the reverse inscription translates to “Orient, Honour and Fatherland."
There may be some medals with clasps. These "ORIENT" clasps are unofficial and were manufactured by private firms.
