History

The Medal for the Vosges Army was created on January 28, 1871 when the Armistice of Versailles was signed. It was awarded to the Fourth Brigade of the Vosges Army for exceptional service in the Franco-Prussian War.

The obverse inscription lists the names of seven battles, and the reverse inscription translates to “French Republic, 4 Brigade Vosges Army 1870-1871.” The suspension is formed in a decorative “R.G.” - the initials Ricciotti Garibaldi, leader of the Fourth Brigade.
