History

The Medal for the Victims of the Invasion was created on June 30, 1921. It was awarded those who were taken hostage, deported, imprisoned, or subjected to brutal treatment as a result of the German invasion.

The Medal could be worn with an “OTAGE DE GUERRE” (“Prisoner of War”) or “PRISONNIER POLITIQUE” (“Political Prisoner”) clasp. These clasps may be made of bronze, silvered bronze, or gilt bronze.

The reverse inscription of the medal translates to “To The Victims of the Invasion, Grateful France."
