History

The Medal of Honour for Paris Markets was created on June 22, 1900, but was later replaced by the Medal of Honour for Departments and Communes.

It was originally awarded to the workers of the halls and markets of Paris for 30 years of service. This service requirement was reduced to 25 years on April 24, 1907, and again to 20 years on June 23, 1915.

The obverse inscription translates to “French Republic, Ministry of the Interior,” and the reverse inscription translates to “Labour, Honour, Devotion.”
