History


The Mining Medal is awarded to workers and executives for service and research in mineral extraction. Since 1970, the Medal has been awarded by department prefects. The Silver Medal is awarded for 15 years of service in the mining industry, the Gilt Medal is awarded for 20 years of service, and the Gold Medal is awarded for 30 years of service. The Medal may also be awarded posthumously to those who died in service.

There are two versions of the Medal which vary in inscription. The first version has a reverse inscription that translates to “Ministry of Industry and Commerce,” and the second version has a reverse inscription that translates to “Ministry of Industry.” Both versions have an obverse inscription that translates to “French Republic.”
