History

The Order of Public Health was created by the decree of February 18, 1938. It replaced the Medal of Honour for Public Assistance and the Hygiene Medal. It was later suppressed when the National Order of Merit was instituted in 1963.

The Order was awarded for exceptional service in public health, public services, and child protection.

A Knight had to be at least thirty years old and have a minimum of 10 years of service. Knights could be promoted to Officers after 5 years, and Officers could be promoted to Commander after 5 years.

The obverse inscription translates to “Order of Public Health,” and the reverse translates to “Joy” and “Health.”

There may be versions that vary in size or manufacturer.
