Physical Description


A rectangular pebbled clasp with a raised smooth border, constructed of silver, featuring the inscription ‘15 DIENST JAHRE’ (15 years of service). The reverse features a horizontal pinback. On a ribbon bar, the ribbon in dark red with two broad white side stripes.

History


The Military Long Service Bar was founded by Grand Duke Ludwig III and was conferred upon Non-Commissioned Officers and soldiers to denote seniority and long service.

Type I was discontinued following the formation of the German Empire in 1871. It was replaced with Type II, which was only conferred upon Non-Commissioned Officers.

The Type II bars are similar in design to the Prussian Long Service Decorations.
