Physical Description

A smooth circular medal with a raised border, constructed of argentine. The obverse features a crown in the centre, with the circular inscription ‘TREUE DIENSTE BEI DER FAHNE’ (loyal service to the flag). The reverse features the Roman numeral ‘IX’. On loop for suspension, on a dark red ribbon with broad white side stripes.

History

The Military Long Service Bar was founded by Grand Duke Ludwig III and was conferred upon Non-Commissioned Officers and soldiers to denote seniority and long service.

In 1913, Type III replaced Type II and the decoration was completely remodelled. Rather than bars, Type III featured a I Class Cross for 15 years and two round medallions for 12 and 9 years of service.
