Physical Description and Item Details


A smooth circular medal with a raised border, constructed of copper bronze. The obverse features a crown in the centre, with the circular inscription ‘TREUE DIENSTE RESERVE LANDWEHR’ (loyal services reserve homeland militia). The reverse is smooth and features the inscription ‘LANDWEHR- DIENSTAUS- ZEICHNUNG II. KLASSE’ (homeland militia service decoration 2nd class). On a loop for suspension, on a dark red ribbon with broad white side stripes.

History


The Reserve Long Service Bar was founded by Grand Duke Ludwig III and was awarded to all Non-Commissioned Officers and Enlisted Men who participated in a minimum of one campaign, and fulfilled their compulsory service in the Army Reserve Forces.

On July 30, 1913, Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig replaced the original bar design of the decoration with a medal.
