Physical Description


A smooth circular medal with a raised border, constructed of silver. The obverse features a column with a crowned shield with the monogram ‘J’, on top of a rock, surrounded by trophies of war, including a cannon, a mortar, helmets, cannon balls, and flags on both sides. Above the column is the date ‘1814’. The reverse features a wreath of oak leaves, tied at the bottom by a ribbon, with the inscription ‘MIT GOTT FÜRS VATERLAND’ (‘with God for the fatherland’) in the centre. On a loop for suspension, on a white ribbon with a broad black centre and narrow side stripes in light blue on the inside and yellow on the outside.

History


The Military Honour Medal was instituted by Prince Charles and was awarded to citizens of Isenburg-Birstein who participated in the military campaigns and war against Napoleon in 1814.

This medal was also conferred upon members of Isenburg's independent battalion in 1815.
