The War Honour Cross for Heroic Deeds was established by Prince Leopold IV to reward exceptionally brave acts during the First World War.

Deserving individuals were placed on a list of proposed award candidates and had to be approved in order to receive the award.

The cross could be awarded to a wide range of Military personnel including, officers, non-commissioned officers, regimental staff, and enlisted men.
