History

The Long Service Cross was originally instituted by Grand Duke Paul Friedrich on 30 April, 1841, and was conferred upon military personnel to reward long and faithful service.

The Type III crosses were renewed by Grand Duke Friedrich Franz IV on 29 August, 1913, and a different number of service years was required to receive an award.

The II Class Cross for 12 Years was conferred upon NCOs (non-commissioned officers) and EMs (Enlisted Men).
