This medal was founded by King Friedrich Wilhelm III and it was awarded to individuals who participated in the Liberation Wars against Napoleon, and remained true to their duties for the duration of the conflict.
The Medal for Combatants was manufactured in both Paris and Berlin. The medals that were manufactured in Paris feature rounded cross arms on the reverse, and the medals that were manufactured in Berlin feature squared off cross arms on the reverse.
The Medal for Combatants (1815) was added as a version on October 30, 1815.
