History

The Military Long Service Decoration was originally founded by King Friedrich Wilhelm III and was conferred upon non-commissioned officers and enlisted men for distinguished and loyal military service.

The recipient's service during wartime counted for double the service time.

The Type II decorations were instituted on July 4, 1913, with new forms and awarding periods.

The II Class Medal was awarded for 12 years of service.
