History

The Long Service Decoration for Domestic Service was instituted on September 16, 1886, by Duke Ernst I.

The Silver Cross for 50 Years was first instituted in 1895. The Decoration was conferred upon male and female domestic servants who had rendered at least 50 years of irreproachable and uninterrupted service with the same employer.

As of 1895, service time began to be counted after a domestic servant turned 21.
