History

The Military Long Service Decoration was jointly instituted on August 31, 1913 in the duchies of Saxe-Altenburg, Saxe-Meiningen, and Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.

The decoration was conferred upon non-commissioned officers and enlisted men of the 8th Thuringian Infantry Regiment No. 153 and the 6th Thuringian Infantry Regiment No. 95 who rendered numerous years of distinguished service. In Saxe-Altenburg, members of the Gendarmerie were also eligible to receive the award.

If an eligible individual was no longer an active member of the army or the Gendarmerie, they could privately purchase a decoration.
