The Military Long Service Decoration was jointly instituted on August 31, 1913, in the duchies of Saxe-Altenburg, Saxe-Meiningen, and Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.
The Decoration was conferred upon Non-Commissioned Officers and enlisted men of the 8. Thüringisches Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 153 and the 6. Thüringisches Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 95 who rendered numerous years of distinguished service. In Saxe-Altenburg members of the Gendarmerie were also eligible to receive the award.
If an eligible individual was no longer an active member of the army or the Gendarmerie, they could privately purchase a decoration.
