The Campaign Medal was instituted in October 1814 by Duchess Louise Leonore, who was the mother of the reigning Duke. The Medal was conferred upon military personnel who participated in the Campaign of 1814/1815 against Napoleon.

The obverse of the medal features an inscription which translates to “To the defender of his country.” The reverse of the medal features a Maltese Cross surrounded by a wreath of oak leaves.
