Physical Description
A smooth oval medal with a raised edge, constructed of gold, surrounded by a frame of chain links. The obverse features the left-facing portrait of an older Grand Duke Carl Alexander with the circular inscription ‘CARL ALEXANDER GROSSHERZOG VON SACHSEN’ surrounded by a pearled line. Below the neck is the stamp cutter’s signature ‘HELFRICHT F.’. At the bottom is a small six-sided star. The reverse features a laurel wreath, cross-tied at the top and bottom by a ribbon, with the inscription ‘DEM VERDIENSTE’ (‘for merit’) in the centre. On a loop for suspension, on a red ribbon.
