This cross was originally instituted by King Anton and his co-regent Friedrich August II.
The medal was renewed by King Friedrich August III on September 6, 1913, and service years and rank necessary were changed to reward Non-Commissioned Officers for 12 years of long and faithful service within the Saxon Military.
