Physical Description

A smooth circular medal with a raised edge, constructed of silver. The obverse features the left-facing portrait of Duke Günther Friedrich Carl II, with the circular inscription ‘GÜNTHER FRIEDRICH CARL II. FÜRST ZU SCHWARZBURG SONDERSHAUSEN’, with a small five-sided star at the bottom. Below the neck is the manufacturer’s signature ‘G. LOOS’. The reverse features Germania, sitting, with a cornucopia and a laurel wreath, with the circular inscription ‘DEM LANDWIRTHSCHAFTLICHEN VERDIENSTE’ (‘for merit in agriculture’). Under a decorative line at the bottom is the manufacturer’s signature ‘G. LOOS’. On a loop for suspension, on a white ribbon with two broad light blue stripes, and as of 1865 on a dark blue ribbon.

History

The Sevice Medal for Agricultural Merit was introduced in 1863 by Prince Günther Friedrich Carl II of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen. The medal was conferred in recognition of exceptional service and accomplishment in the field of agriculture.
