History

The 19. Waffen-Grenadier-Division (Lettische Nr. 2) was raised in January of 1944 and served alongside its sister unit, the 15. Waffen-Grenadier-Division (Lettische Nr. 1) as the Latvian Legion. The Division was formed from the 2nd SS Infantry Brigade and incorporated the 42nd, 43rd, and 44th Grenadier Regiments.

Foreign SS volunteers were not permitted to wear SS runes and instead, they were issued collar tabs that were unique to their division.
