History

In October of 1944, an SS Bergführer (Mountain Guide) badge was introduced. It was worn on the left breast pocket. The design is the same as the Edelweiss sleeve insignia, with an Edelweiss flower on a black cloth oval inside a border, but with the additional word "Bergführer" below the flower. The flower, border, and letters are in off-white thread with a yellow flower centre for Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) and Enlisted Men (EMs), and in hand-embroidered aluminum wire with a gold-coloured flower centre for Officers.
