History

SS Officers were entitled to privately purchase and wear black riding boots. As these boots were not regulation, there was no standard pattern. Some boots had tops with straps and buckles, while others were plain.

Many Officers wore spurs with their boots until June of 1943 when Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler determined that only members of mounted units were allowed to regularly wear spurs. Other members of the SS were also allowed to wear spurs if they were going to ride, were riding, or had just finished riding a horse.

Like all other footwear, as the war progressed Officer’s riding boots became increasingly scarce.
