History

The Landesjägerkorps was founded in December of 1918. Landesjäger were a traditional form of mounted police. The corps was absorbed into the provisional army of the Weimar Republic in June 1919 and ceased to exist as a unit on October 1, 1920.

The Landesjägerkorps Medal for Horse Care was instituted by the unit's leader, General Maercker, probably in 1920. The manufacturer was P. Meybauer, Berlin.

The medal is round and silvered. It features a horse head facing to the viewer's left with a laurel branch below. This is identical to the one on the Freikorps von Diebitsch Medal for Horse Care. Additionally, there is a circular inscription reading "FREIWILLIGES LANDESJÄGER-KORPS". At the bottom are three six-sided stars, the centre one being much larger than the other two.
The reverse features the inscription "FÜR GUTE PFERDE-PFLEGE" (for good horse care), flanked by oak leaves with two acorns, held together at the bottom by a ribbon. Above the leaves, one on each side, are two six-sided stars.
