This Award was founded and designed by Oberleutnant Karl Bergerhoff to reward members of the Selbstschutz Battalion Bergerhoff who displayed valour in the face of the enemy.

To be eligible for this award, the recipient had to have already received the I Class or II Class Silesian Eagle.

There were only 30 I Class crosses awarded.
