The Homeland Defense Pitschen Commemorative Cross was instituted for those that defended the town of Pitschen and its surroundings in May of 1921 when Polish insurgents invaded Upper Silesia. It was instituted by the commander of the homeland defense units, Oberleutnant Schneider, and manufactured mainly by the company of M. Reich in Breslau.
Further information about the institution and statutes of the award is not known.
The award is in the form of a silvered cross with a red enamelled obverse. The round silvered centre portion features the crest of the town of Pitschen, a red city wall with two towers. In between the cross arms are two crossed swords in silver. The reverse features a pinback.
