History

This Commemorative War Medal commemorated the participation of Hanover Military personnel in the First World War.

Hanover veterans were eligible for the medal, but they had to purchase the medal themselves.

It was awarded between 1920 and 1933.

The reverse inscription translates to "The Grateful Homeland to the Sons of Lower Saxony" and "Hanover Military Association".

The ribbon may feature a crossed swords device, which indicates that the recipient was a veteran who served on the front line.
