This Medal was awarded in recognition of loyal service to the Hungarian People's Republic following the Hungarian uprising of 1956.

The Medal was suppressed after 1965.

There are two main versions of this medal.

The medals conferred in 1956 have the 1949-1956 emblem of the Hungarian People’s Republic on the obverse.

The medals conferred from 1957 to 1965 have the 1957-1989 emblem of the Hungarian People’s Republic on the obverse.
