History


This Medal was awarded to Hungarian miners in recognition of long service within the field of mining, including direct labour and supervision.

There are two main versions of the medal.

The medals awarded from in 1956 feature the Hungarian People's Republic emblem from 1949-1956 on the obverse medallion.

The medals awarded from 1957 to 1991 feature the Hungarian People's Republic emblem from 1957-1989 on the obverse medallion.

The obverse inscription roughly translates to "Mining Service Medal of Merit."

The II Class Silver Medal was conferred for 20 years of direct work within mines, or 25 years of service in a mine related employment.
