History

The Medal was instituted by Miklos Horthy to commemorate the reclamation areas of southern Hungary lost at the end of World War I.

It was awarded to all Hungarian military personnel who had rendered service in the occupation of those lost territories.

Following the end of World War II the territory became part of Yugoslavia, and the Medal was discontinued.

The obverse inscription roughly translates to “In memory of the recovery of Southern Hungary,” and the reverse inscription roughly translates to “In the 22nd Year of the Regency of Valiant Miklós Horthy de Nagybányai 1941.”
