This Medal was founded to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Hungarian Revolution of 1848.

The obverse features the portrait of Sandor Petofi a Hungarian revolutionary and poet who was very active in the Hungarian Revolution of 1848 against the Austrian Empire.

There were approximately 2930 Bronze Medals awarded in total.
