History

This award comes in three degrees: Bronze, Silver and Gold.
The Silver Medal was awarded to individuals who performed an honorable rescue of an Icelandic citizen.
founded 1948 discontinued 1960
known about 47 people awarded the silver medal, can be as many as 80 but it is not verified.
There are only listed names of few of the persons awarded the medals but the number is only calculated from the books of the National Live Saving Association of Iceland from that time. Not all the books state the names of the people awarded. The last few years there is only number of people mentioned and how many from each grade of the medal. But sometimes only ship crews, not how many was on the ship.
The medals are all made from silver. The difference between the medals is the star in center, it is Silver on this one so this is the silver medal.
