The Type I Order awards may have been manufactured by a Danish company. The original Type I collar was stolen by a footman from the Amalienborg castle and he later sold it to a well-known Danish Collector. The collector had 5 replicas made, and before his death he sold the original to a German collector, who later auctioned it in Hamburg. Eventually, the collar became part of a Finnish collection.

History

This is Iceland's only Order, and it was founded by King Christian X of Denmark and Iceland. The Order was founded to recognize foreign or Icelandic individuals who have contributed outstanding services to Iceland within civil or military spheres.

The Order's statutes were revised on July 11, 1944 with Iceland's transition into a Republic and the President of Iceland became the Grand Master of the Order.

The Order may be known as the Order of the Icelandic Falcon.

The Type I grades feature a surmounting Royal crown.

This Collar was only worn by heads of state.
