History

This is Iceland's only Order, and it was founded by King Christian X of Denmark and Iceland. The Order was founded to recognize foreign or Icelandic individuals who have contributed outstanding services to Iceland within civil or military spheres.

The Order's statutes were revised on July 11, 1944 with Iceland's transition into a Republic and the President of Iceland became the Grand Master of the Order.

The Order may be known as the Order of the Icelandic Falcon.

The Type II grades feature surmounting Fleur-de-Lys.

The Collar is only worn by the President of Iceland or foreign Heads of State.
