History

This medal was founded by Prince Johann II on November 12, 1908 to commemorate the anniversary of his 50th ruling year. The medal was conferred upon members of his staff, and past staff, that had rendered loyal service to the Principality throughout Prince Johann II's reign. The obverse inscription translates to "Johann Prince of Liechtenstein 1908." The reverse inscription translates to "Jubilee for the 50th Year of Reign."

Prince Johann, also referred to as Prince Johann II the Good, ascended to the throne at the age of 18, and ruled until his death on February 11, 1929 at the age of 88. He was well known for fostering a closer relationship with Switzerland and issuing Liechtenstein’s first constitution in 1862.
