History

The Army Officer Long Service Decoration was established by Royal Decree in 1844. It is currently awarded to Officers and reserve Officers of the Dutch Army in recognition of long service. It had also been previously awarded to Officers and reserve Officers of the Dutch Indian Army.

All recipients receive the decoration for 15 years of service and can upgrade their decorations at their own expense after every 5 additional years of service.

The Army Officer Long Service Decoration is classified into two types based on changes in form. Type I decorations are gilded buckles, while Type II decorations are gilded crosses. Both types feature the number of service years in the centre of the decoration and both are worn on orange, blue, and white striped ribbons.

There may be additional versions of the Decoration (for 35 Years) that vary in composition.
